This is the same as the “Location, Location, Location!” mantra, as video is where you want to be; where you need to be! Using video in social media if one of those shifts in marketing we have to adapt to and not ignore, or we will fall behind. It’s that simple. It’s time to get over yourself, if that’s who/what’s in the way, and dive in. Videos don’t need to be cinematic productions on social media, it’s about the content.

DO NOT Start your videos off with where it was shot, who directed, etc., or with a bunch of logos of the brands you play. I know it makes you look established—and perhaps you are—and you may have obligations if you are a brand endorser, but put them at the end if you feel you need them. Putting then at the front wastes valuable time and honestly, with all due respect … no one cares. Just like a TV commercial, on social media, you typically have 4 – 10 seconds to get your viewers’ attention.

Don’t spend 20+ seconds with logos or some artsy fartsy build-up, or they just going to keep scrolling. I have posted over 10,000 videos in 10 years and watch ALL the stats.

Four tips for success: 90 sec or less in length, hold the camera horizontally if using a smartphone, be relatable to your target market and be sincere and genuine. Success!
